Malaysia U23 Squad Ready for 2024 AFC Asian Cup


The 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup tournament officially began on April 15th in Qatar.

Eight Selangor FC young players, Mukhairi Ajmal, Syahir Bashah, Azim Al Amin, Harith Haiqal, Zikri Khalili, Nooa Laine, Izwan Yuslan, and Muhammad Abu Khalil, will be part of the Malaysian under-23 squad competing in this year’s AFC Asian Cup. These players have been involved with the national team since the qualification level.

According to Mukhairi Ajmal, Captain of the Malaysian U23 squad, he hopes for a positive result to make his parents and the country proud. "Alhamdulillah, all of our preparations went well, and I believe that the friendly matches we played and the training we did will help us to give a strong competition to the other teams in this major tournament. My teammates have made a significant commitment to be selected to represent the country. I hope that this strong ambition in us will allow us to achieve a positive outcome, that will make our parents, families, supporters, and the country proud."

Malaysia U23 has been put into Group D of the U23 Asian Cup, which includes Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Kuwait, after receiving the second best last spot in the group in the tournament's qualifying phase in Thailand in September 2023. Here is the Malaysian U23 Group level match schedule, based on Malaysia time:-

April 17th, 9:00 pm - Uzbekistan U23 vs Malaysia U23

April 20th, 9:00 pm - Malaysia U23 vs Vietnam U23

April 23th, 11:30 pm - Kuwait U23 vs Malaysia U23

The top two countries from each group will advance to the Quarter Finals on April 25th-26th, then the Semi-Finals on April 29th, the 3rd and 4th places on May 2nd and the Final on May 3rd.
